Overview
Balmond Roam acts like a battlefield general, leading from the front by initiating fights, absorbing damage, and creating space for his team. Even if some teammates dislike the pick, what matters most is helping your team win. With a win rate of around 53%, Balmond Roam remains a reliable choice when played with good macro and micro. His simple but effective kit also makes him a great hero for new players who want to learn roaming, teamfight timing, and objective control.
Strengths
* Excellent frontline with high durability and sustain. * Strong initiation and zone control during teamfights. * One of the best heroes for securing Turtle and Lord with his Ultimate. * Consistent area damage that pressures multiple enemies. * Easy to learn while remaining effective in coordinated team play. * Can adapt his build to counter different enemy team compositions.
Weaknesses
1. Lacks hard crowd control compared to traditional tank roamers. 2. Can be kited by highly mobile heroes. 3. Relies on staying close to enemies to maximize Skill 2 damage. 4. Vulnerable to heavy crowd control and displacement effects. 5. Less effective when falling behind in levels or gold. 6. Requires good Ultimate timing to secure objectives and finish enemies efficiently.
Frontline Guardian
Equipment Build Description This build focuses on making Balmond a durable frontline that protects teammates, controls objectives, and adapts to different enemy team compositions. Tough Boots (Encourage) provide crowd control reduction and increase nearby allies' damage during teamfights and objective contests. Dominance Ice is one of the core items, offering anti-heal, attack speed reduction, and excellent durability against sustain heroes and healer supports. Chastise Pauldron strengthens Balmond's frontline presence by improving his survivability while continuously applying pressure during extended fights. Antique Cuirass is an important counter against physical skill damage dealers. I often buy **Dreadnaught Armor** first after Dominance Ice, then complete Antique Cuirass later depending on the match. This gives an early defensive spike without delaying other important items. Radiant Armor is the highest priority defensive item against sustained magic damage. It greatly improves Balmond's durability against mages that deal continuous damage and is one of the most important situational items in this build. Guardian Helmet provides massive HP and regeneration, allowing Balmond to recover quickly after fights and remain active on the map without recalling. When the match reaches the late game, I may sell my Boots and purchase Immortality for an additional chance to survive crucial teamfights and defend important objectives. Optional Equipment : Warrior Boots (Encourage): Choose Warrior Boots when the enemy team has three or more Physical Damage heroes with low crowd control. The extra Physical Defense and stacking passive improve Balmond's durability during the early and mid game. If the enemy team has heavy crowd control or multiple Magic Damage heroes, Tough Boots are usually the better choice.
Tips for cursed helmet.
I do not use Cursed Helmet because this build prioritizes winning teamfights through survivability, utility, and counter-itemization rather than dealing extra burn damage. As a roamer, protecting teammates and building the correct defensive items provides more value than increasing personal damage.
Roam Tank
I choose the Tank Emblem to maximize Balmond's durability and sustain as a frontline roamer. Firmness improves his early-game defenses, Tenacity increases his survivability during teamfights when his HP is low, and Brave Smite restores HP after crowd control, allowing Balmond to stay in fights longer without relying only on his passive. This emblem set provides consistent durability and sustain, making it ideal for initiating fights, protecting teammates, and controlling objectives.
Battle Spell
Revitalize is my preferred Battle Spell because it gives Balmond extra sustain during extended teamfights and objective contests. It allows me to frontline longer, bait enemy skills, and protect nearby teammates while creating space. Cast Revitalize before or during an engagement, especially around Turtle, Lord, or towers, to maximize its healing value for both yourself and your allies.
Early Game (Lv. 1-3)
Balmond Roam in the early game should play like a bully support for your Jungler. Your first priority is to pressure the enemy Jungler, help secure the first buff, and make their early pathing uncomfortable. Even though the meta has shifted and this setup may not be as common in S41, Balmond can still work if you stay active and keep forcing tempo. After helping your Jungler, rotate quickly to Mid Lane and nearby side lanes to create pressure, scout enemy movement, and protect your team from early invades. The main goal is not just to fight, but to make sure your team can follow your tempo and stay ahead in map control.
Mid Game (Objective Control)
This is where Balmond Roam becomes one of the strongest objective controllers. Your role depends on whether your Jungler decides to take Turtle or not. If they do, stay with your team and help secure the objective with Skill 1, Skill 2, and your Ultimate at the right moment. If they choose to skip Turtle, focus on controlling the map, rotating quickly, and protecting key areas so the enemy cannot easily invade or ambush your team. With strong vision and constant pressure, Balmond makes enemies hesitate to start fights because they know your team can see them coming. Frontline confidently, but avoid diving too deep without your teammates following up.
Late Game & General Tips
In the late game, your main job is to create space, protect your carries, and control the area around Lord. Balmond Roam is not a hero that can play carelessly. Think strategically, follow your team's tempo, watch the minimap, and predict enemy movements. Stay with your team so you can arrive first at important fights and objectives. Build defensive items based on the enemy's strongest threats instead of using the same build every match. Do not focus on having the highest damage or KDA. A successful Balmond Roam wins by making smart decisions, securing objectives with his Ultimate, and protecting teammates through strong frontline positioning and good timing.
Best With Cecilion
100% co-op win rate
Balmond creates space for Cecilion by frontlining and absorbing enemy pressure. His initiation and zone control allow Cecilion to safely deal continuous damage during teamfights. Together, they are especially strong in long objective fights around Turtle and Lord.
Watch Out For Natalia
20% counter win rate
Natalia is difficult for Balmond Roam to control because she constantly threatens the backline from unexpected angles. Even with good map awareness, she can pressure isolated teammates and force your team to play more cautiously. Balmond has limited tools to reveal or lock her down, making it difficult to fully protect allies throughout the match.
